Information Technology Programmer Student Assistant

Definition and Purpose

Under the supervision of the Information Technology Programmer, the Information Technology Programmer Student Assistant will maintain and develop website technology using HTML/XTML including frame types, tables and forms. A good working knowledge of various website development tools such as FTP and telnet software, basic Unix/Linux commands and file permissions, website editing, management tools and Photoshop required. The creation of database driven content using SQL programming skills is necessary.

Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly in a minimum of 6 units. All ASI student staff must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Graduate students must carry 4 units/3.0 GPA
  • Excellent working knowledge of the various limitations and capabilities of web browsers and various popular plugins
  • Ability to work on Windows XP/Vista/7, Macintosh, and Linux platforms
  • Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with editing abilities
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office

  • None

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Edit and create HTML code by hand.
  • Program in Flash, Java Script, AJAX, PHP and SQL.
  • Create web pages and applications with database integration.
  • Use Photoshop and/or other software to manipulate graphical web content.
  • Develop and maintain systems/policy documentation.
  • Monitor work order tracking system, escalate priorities, and document progress.
  • Research new technology solutions.
  • Answer customer support phone calls and emails.
  • Meet project deadlines and be punctual and accountable.
  • Provide quality customer service for all staff and other customers.
  • Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers.
  • Adhere to and enforce all ASI policies and procedures.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
  • The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
  • Participate in ASI assessment planning and goal setting process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Compensation and Hours

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour; maximum 20 hours per week.
