Lead Toddler Teacher

Looking for a DYNAMIC Lead Teacher to join our Child Development team! We currently have an immediate opportunity for a Lead Teacher to support our Toddler classroom in Fayetteville, NC. This is a Full Time position (M-F 8:30am - 5:30pm) offering competitive salary and full benefits.

Position Summary: The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing evidence based, developmentally appropriate, inclusive early care and education program for young children. Lead Teacher must ensure the development and safety of children in accordance with relevant federal and state legislation and policies.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans, prepares and implements daily activities for indoor and outdoor learning environments that encourage each child’s growth in social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development.
  • Collaborates with family, therapists and other professionals to successfully integrate specialized services in the curriculum.
  • Supports learning of children with special needs by embedding specialized instruction/ therapy, into the daily routine.
  • Provides personal care to children as needed, including toileting, feeding, hand washing, and assisting children on and off the van.
  • Ensures safety of children at all times and across all learning environments.
  • Conducts on-going assessment of child development through a variety of developmentally appropriate, culturally & linguistically responsive methods that are tied to daily activities. (Observation/ data collection/ work samples/ portfolios, etc.)
  • Administers or assists in standardized screening and evaluation as needed for eligibility determination, goal development and progress reporting.
  • Maintains quality communication with parents on a daily basis through a variety of methods that may include daily notes, in person or telephone conferencing, newsletters, dedicated on-line portals and other methods effective in meeting family needs.
  • Encourages family involvement through volunteerism, parent meetings, special activities, etc.
  • In collaboration with Director and other support staff, assesses needs of center families and advises families on available support services, assisting with referrals as needed.
  • Participates in regular staff, parent and educational support meetings.
  • Trains and utilizes assistant teacher and volunteer skills and abilities.
  • Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensures confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Writes or participates in the development and/or review and implementation of IFSP / IEP, with child’s family, service coordinator, therapists, preschool coordinator and/or other professionals and in accordance with CDSA/ LEA protocol.
  • Provides/ oversees special education / special instruction and intervention services to facilitate/ monitor progress toward objectives identified in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Follows all established procedures established by CDSA/ LEA for referral, placement, service delivery and transition relative to Part C and Part B of IDEA.
  • Completes documentation as required by CDSA, LEA, ESUCP, administrators of public/ private grants and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures activities, practices and environment are in compliance with current Division of Child Development and Early Education, Developmental Day, Health & Sanitation, and rated license regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Director and/or designated support staff to assess program strengths and needs and to determine necessary enhancements to facilitate quality and best practice.
  • Participates in professional development and in-service training as required by ESUCP and local/ state / federal regulatory and licensure agencies.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality, manages use of PTO time, and follows all policies and procedures regarding time off.
  • Completes required training within prescribed timeframes.
  • Follows all ESUCP policies and procedures as appropriate to position.
  • Must demonstrate Easter Seals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment and Caring as appropriate to position.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • May assist Center Director in evaluation of assistant teachers
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


For Developmental Day classroom serving children under the age of 3 years:

  • NCECC or equivalent & AAS degree in Early Childhood Education/ Child Development from a college or university accredited by an entity approved by USDOE or CHEA; or NCECC or equivalent & AAS degree from a college or university accredited by an entity approved by USDOE or CHEA in any major with 12 semester hours in ECE/ CD.
  • NC Early Childhood Credential or equivalent (NCECC) & Infant Toddler Family Specialist certification issued from the North Carolina Division of Public Health, or Birth-through-Kindergarten (B-K) Standard Professional I licensure or provisional licensure in B-K issued from the Department of Public Instruction Preferred


  • 2 years verifiable early childhood work experience
  • Experience providing services to children with disabilities preferred.

Skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of child development and recommended practices in service provision for children who are typically developing and those with or at risk for developmental or behavioral/emotional disabilities.
  • Ability to supervise and interact effectively with many young children at one time.
  • Ability to maintain professional collaborative relationships with parents service coordinators, LEA representatives and other professionals.
  • Understand services for children and families as dictated by IDEA parts C&B including parental rights, family centered services and natural environment practices. Understand relationship of ESUCP to agencies with which we contract to provide part C & B services.
  • Working knowledge of responsibilities and accountability related to any grant funded activities.
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills including clarity and articulation of thought, appropriate grammar, style, form and punctuation.
