Pay Rate $54,500-$64,500/yr.  
Description

SUMMARY
Oversees all bureau activities in the maintenance and repair of the city sewer system.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises all general foremen, foremen and hourly employees of the Bureau of Sewers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Supervises all sewer maintenance and repair operations.
• Supervises the planning and scheduling of daily and weekly assignments for a variety of crews and foremen, equipment operators and laborers.
• Supervises the processing of all complaints and reported problems, reviews related reports and contacts citizens regarding complaints and problems.
• Monitors material and supply accounts in the budget and requisitions raw materials, tools and equipment as needed.
• Responsible for the hiring of new employees and all personnel issues and disciplinary actions.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma, several years of college or specialized training in management and six years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in sewer maintenance, public construction and/or public administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Must have basic knowledge of sewer programs and have the ability to determine the cause of any problems and their solutions.
• Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of a municipal sewer system.
• Knowledge of all occupational hazards, related laws and proper safety precautions.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations to a sewer collection system.
• Have the ability to supervise and coordinate the entire bureau.
• Ability to maintain exact and comprehensive records of expenses, finances, payroll, work projects, job performance and absenteeism.
• Knowledge of accounting, statistical analysis and the principals of public administration.
• Knowledge of the methods and materials used in public construction and maintenance.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Knowledge of union agreements.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Class A Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days, with the following endorsements:
• Air brake and general knowledge
• Combination vehicle
• Tanker

EQUIPMENT
All categories of pneumatic, hydraulic, manual and industrial equipment and tools needed to perform assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities required in this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Exposure to oil and grease, solvents and other chemicals.
