Job Summary: The Labs at CLP engages teens in creating digital content in a library setting.

The individual awarded this part-time position will implement The Labs creative technology programming as designed by the Teen Services’ Digital Learning Lead Librarian. This individual will be based out of the Library’s Office of Programs and Partnerships, however they will facilitate Labs programs at CLP – Homewood on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. They will also support other teen-serving staff by teaching them how to use technology for creative purposes and occasionally facilitating Labs programming at additional CLP locations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage teens in creating digital content in a library setting, and on occasion during outreach to local schools and community centers;
  • Implement The Labs programming, as designed by the Teen Services’ Digital Learning Lead Librarian;
  • Work to develop rapport with the teens in the library and help to fulfill their informational and recreational needs;
  • Participate in system-wide initiatives and programs, time-permitting.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • The desire to work with teens (ages 11-18 or grades 6-12) in an urban setting, experience doing so is a plus.
  • Experience teaching in an informal learning environment;
  • Able to adapt their plans and teaching styles on the spot to meet the needs of teens in our drop-in programs;
  • Comfortable with a collaborative learning process, both with their colleagues and teens;
  • Active engagement in at least two of the following:
    • Filmmaking, photography, musicianship, graphic design/digital art, computer programming, sewing/textiles or other creative pursuits
  • Experience using iMacs and creative software, for example Adobe Creative Suite and GarageBand;
  • The ability to transport program supplies and equipment to various library and outreach locations;
  • PA Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training required upon offer of employment.
 
Full-Time/Part-Time Part-Time  
Work Hours 25 hours per week; mostly weekday afternoons and evenings with occasional weekends  
Salary $17.00 per hour
