Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Position Summary: The Associate Dean of Students, in collaboration with the Dean of Students, has primary responsibility for the direction and oversight of the school’s daily operations in order to ensure that the school achieves its Lasallian Vincentian Catholic mission. The Associate Dean shares the responsibility for maintaining an overall environment conducive to academic excellence, ensuring general safety and promoting respect for the individual, the community, and the campus. As a school leader and public figure within the community, the Associate Dean models leadership, care and concern for the entire SHC community. His/her presence throughout campus is a top priority. The Associate Dean will approach student misconduct with an emphasis on correction, reform, restoration and growth.

*The position provides a full-time employment opportunity with the Associate Dean of Students position comprising 80% FTE (4/5th responsibility) and other duties (e.g. serving as a classroom teacher for a period) comprising the other 20% FTE (1/5th responsibility).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Dean of Students in the oversight and supervision of school personnel and makes recommendations to the Dean and Principal relative to maintaining good order in the school community;
  • Communicates regularly with all school counselors relative to student discipline, detentions and attendance;
  • Assumes role of the Dean of Students in his/her absence;
  • Assists the Dean of Students in organizing and overseeing emergency planning and preparedness, safety and security policies and plans (including but not limited to fire, earthquakes, lock-out and lock-down), including the administering and recording of all required emergency drills and exercises;
  • Assists the Dean of Students in directing the daily operations of the school;
  • Provides for good order throughout the school and at all school sponsored student events;
  • Assists the Dean of Students in the implementation of disciplinary sanctions including detention, probation, and suspension for any misconduct, breach of academic integrity, or disorder among the students;
  • Assists the Dean of Students with the formulation and implementation of disciplinary procedures and policies;
  • Assists the Dean of Students in implementing student discipline, welfare and safety policies;
  • In collaboration with Wellness and Counseling faculty, designs and implements curriculum to encourage a culture of civility, respectful relationships and digital citizenship in our diverse community of learners;
  • Confers with students, parents, teachers and staff concerning policies and procedures which he/she implements with respect to the good order of the school;
  • Confers with civil authorities and Principal when students become involved in legal concerns in the absence of the Dean of Students;
  • Assists the Dean of Students on coordinating security of buildings and grounds;
  • Assists the Dean of Students in the running of detention;
  • Serves as a member of the Walkathon Team;
  • Attends and participates in Archdiocesan and other relevant meetings;
  • Serves as a member of the Student Review Board;
  • Works with the Director of Facilities and Office of Communications to make sure that all classrooms are in compliance with all campus safety signage;
  • Works with Dean of Students in keeping student information current in Emergency Boxes at Evacuation Locations;
  • At the direction of the Dean of Students, coordinates administrative approval for student produced items (e.g. Oracle, Emerald and Yearbook);
  • Tracks, records and communicates with teachers, counselors and administration concerning issues of Academic Integrity;
  • Coordinates attendance efforts for AP exams in May;
  • Assumes other administrative duties as assigned by the Administrative Team and the Dean of Students;

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to be confident, assertive and communicative with individual and large groups of students, colleagues and parents;
  • Serve as a model educator and a strong proponent of Lasallian/Vincentian principles;
  • Must show a high level of initiative and follow through with the ability to work independently;
  • Strong organizational, supervisory and project management skills;
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, strong work ethic;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a diverse, inclusive work environment;
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Google Applications, mail merge tools, databases and social media;
  • Candidate will also be committed to ongoing education and professional growth;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends;

Certifications and/or Licensure
Teaching or counseling credential preferred but not required Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience; Master’s Degree preferred. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software applications, Google/Gmail and internet usage, and; database management preferred
