About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Position Boomerangs Truck Driver  
Full-Time/Part-Time Part-Time  

Boomerangs, a family of non-profit thrift stores operated by AIDS Action, is seeking a full-time Truck Driver and Furniture Mover to assist with operating our box truck, picking-up furniture donations from donors homes and businesses, delivering merchandise to retail locations, and perform daily maintenance checks of the vehicle.


  1. Greet and assist donors in a friendly manner during scheduled furniture pick-ups (approximately 6-8 per day)
  2. Decline items for donation that are unacceptable
  3. Transport goods from Boomerangs Distribution Center to retail stores as scheduled/required
  4. Assist store staff with rearranging and placing furniture on sales floor
  5. Follow all rules and regulations and drive courteously and cautiously while driving Boomerangs vehicles
  6. Perform light maintenance and cleanliness checks on the vehicle daily. Keep trucks clean and maintain all equipment. Report any maintenance, mechanical or safety issues to Truck Manager immediately.
  7. Performs other duties as requested by Truck Manager or Store Managers
  8. Meet agency participatory expectations
  9. Perform related duties and projects as assigned

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Rate: $16.00/hr

Position Requirements


  • At least 1 year of experience driving a box-truck or other large vehicle required, 3+ years of regular driving experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record (CDL not required). Must be able to abide by all traffic and driving laws and be insurable for the duration of your employment.
  • All drivers have a minimum of (4) years driving experience to qualify for coverage on our auto policy, with (6) or more years experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of truck safety, including the ability to recognize hazards
  • Must have general knowledge of the city of Boston and surrounding neighborhoods; read a map; have knowledge of traffic signs; and have basic mechanical knowledge
  • Must be in good physical shape (DOT card and physical will be required to drive our vehicles).
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of customers, donors, and co-workers.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the Dedham, West Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain areas.
  • Must greet each donor in a friendly manner and introduce yourself and your partner on each pick up. Must be polite and respectful of donor’s homes. Must be able to communicate to donors what items we can and cannot accept for donation.
  • Must be able to communicate and take direction from multiple managers at multiple store locations.
  • Must be able to report all incidents in a timely manager to an appointed truck fleet manager.
  • Must be flexible. Each day is different, must be able to adapt quickly and think fast. Expect the unexpected.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:
    • Ability to stand for an entire shift
    • Ability to lift 50+ pounds alone and 100+ pounds with the help of another staff member. Knowledge of proper moving and lifting techniques preferred.
    • Ability to safely operate a box truck, including ability to remain alert, agile, and coordinated to turn, twist, and react in emergency situations while driving the vehicle.
