Description

SUMMARY:

Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products (including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results)
  • Program the various machinery and instruments using Autocad, CNC, and other programming languages, as needed
  • Research the proper tools and/or machinery, methodologies and processes to improve production activities
  • Develop work instructions/aids and train personnel
  • Confer with management, engineering, and staff of other departments concerning product design, tooling, and production schedules to ensure efficient production methods and quality results
  • Use statistical methods to perform product/process analysis for cost reduction and improve quality/efficiency of manufacturing processes
  • Estimate material and labor costs of new and ongoing manufacturing processes and recommend to management the most efficient production methodologies
  • Use of Lean Manufacturing techniques to improve the work flow layout, and improve the overall production processes
  • Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of processes and related equipment
  • Design, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment according to specifications and quality standards
  • Represent manufacturing/engineering on cross-functional teams
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Does not supervise others
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

  • Minimum five years related experience required; Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques

  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly and production equipment; machine tooling/design; experience with AutoCAD, ProE, or similar programs; CNC programming experience is desired

  • Weld knowledge, skills, and experience strongly preferred:

    • Establishment of K-factors to metal sheets

    • Tig and Mig weld techniques

    • Weld certification (i.e CWI, CWE, CWS)

    • Thorough knowledge of AWS D requirements

    • Performance of FMEA and CAR reviews

  • Strong knowledge in written product specifications

  • Project Management: ability to organize and manage multiple products through manufacturing process

  • Ability to maintain safe work environment

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and problem solve

  • Ability to perform problem analysis and problem resolution

  • Ability to work a varied schedule, willing to work overtime when necessary

  • Ability to work with vendors, customers and employees

  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively with management and personnel at all levels

  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office). Must possess excellent skills with Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work is accomplished in a typical office environment with adequate environmental (heating/cooling) control.The noise level in the work environment is moderate due to noises associated with computer equipment and environmental control systems.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.

  • Access to operations and manufacturing areas may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, oils, and fluctuations in temperature.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Performs all work in accordance with safety and workmanship and good housekeeping specifications

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee alternates between sitting and standing/walking for long periods of time

  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

  • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed

TRAINING:

New employee safety orientation and training on special tools or software required for job performance
