This position, with minimal supervision, is responsible for providing technical support to electricians, line crews, electronic technicians, and fiber installers. Support may include the providing technical guidance regarding maintenance and repairs, development of work processes and procedures, maintaining electrical asset management databases, and providing various other crew support activities.

  • This position will be responsible for systems or facilities that have substantial effect on plant or system reliability.
  • This position will be responsible to mentor crafts and other engineers.
  • This position is expected to have a working knowledge of electric utility distribution systems, substations, transmission systems, and construction practices.
  • This position primarily performs technical engineering functions and is considered to be a journeyman engineer in their field of expertise.

This position may be assigned to work on civil, electrical, or mechanical projects based on the individual employee’s knowledge and experience

Position Requirements

Job Responsibilities
• Acts as subject matter expert providing instruction and guidance across various disciplines; maintains data of system assets, test procedures, and test results; maintains information in a maintenance management software system; and serves as a technical resource for crew needs.
• Provide thoroughly developed solutions to electrical, mechanical, and/or structural problems within supported functional areas; manage competing constraints to obtain the optimal solution considering schedule, budget, and quality needs of potential solutions.

• Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and
• Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Accept responsibility for safety of all team members and model safe behaviors by:

• Clearly defining and completing performance-focused safety activities require of you.
• Support work stoppages by employees when they identify unsafe/hazardous working conditions.
• Acknowledging compliant safety behaviors and good safety performance from members of your team(s).

Additional Job Responsibilities

• Depending on qualifications, this position may provide project management of installation and repair projects, develop technical specifications for equipment and apparatus, and analyze system issues and test results to determine acceptance or corrective action plans.
• Inspect equipment in the field, reviewing technical data outputs of various pieces of equipment, and analyzing variations from original designs
• Coordinate and conduct engineering and other studies, projects, and system upgrades
• Develop, implement, and coordinate procedures, functions, and activities
• Analyze system requirements; perform calculations required to verify system integrity
• Specify equipment, work with vendors, and obtain quotes as needed
• Research and analyze technical information and data in order to prepare reports
• Manage proper documentation, mapping, and safety planning for all aspects of Grant PUD’s infrastructure from power delivery assets; ensure all documentation is properly stored in Grant PUD’s engineering application databases
• Function as main point of contact with various internal and external stakeholders ensuring proper relationship development and communication policies are followed during all interactions; oversee contractors and consultants performing engineering and maintenance work
• Perform site inspections; meet with contract personnel, Grant PUD Employees, and other representatives to resolve problems and concerns and answer questions on issues/projects; assist with field inspections of projects for conformance to approved plans
• Perform increasingly more responsible work as the employee gains experience and independently performs engineering duties
• Train in the formulation of budgets for projects including planning, design, regulatory, and construction phases

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; AND six (6) years’ of electrical engineering experience. Journey level credentials with at least 10 years’ of electric utility experience may be substituted for degree requirements.

Knowledge and Skills

Extensive knowledge of – concepts, principles, theories, and methods surrounding the electric utility industry and best practices; project management tools and techniques; technical competences with an attention toward detail; financial management philosophies; electric system construction, maintenance, operation, and compliance knowledge. Experience in electric utility line construction, electronic equipment, communications equipment, fiber optics, and substation apparatus is beneficial.

Skill in – problem solving; written and oral interpersonal communication; workflow and time management; utilizing MS office products and applications.

Special Requirements
A valid State driver’s license is required.

Physical Requirements
Majority of work is performed in a standard office setting, with some field work that may require operation of a vehicle.
