Description

This is your opportunity to join the dynamic Zoo Operations team at Woodland Park Zoo. Applications are now being accepted for Exhibit Attendant in the Animal Management department. There are multiple part-time, temporary, non-benefited positions to be filled at this time.

SUMMARY

Serves as guide to visitors and special groups and provides information about exhibits, regulations, and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff the public areas of the exhibit, interpreting the exhibit to the public.
  • Oversee crowd flow and ensure viewing etiquette guidelines are followed by visitors.
  • Provide assistance to Zoo Keepers.
  • Monitor the public, animals, buildings and exhibit areas when Keepers have left the work areas.
  • Close the exhibit at the end of the day.
  • Staff the exhibit at special after-hours events upon request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the zoo, preferably gained through working at the zoo in a volunteer or staff capacity.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteers, and manage crowds and difficult situations.
  • Good interpretive skills.
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Enjoy working with the public and serving a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Possess a customer service-oriented demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, and independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings and holidays.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous experience working with animals preferred.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

First Aid and CPR preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Requires basic computer skills with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, and ability to do basic navigation on the Internet.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires an ability to walk or transit across the 92-acre facility in variable weather conditions, enter non-public areas or access behind the scenes staff areas. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
