AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business focusing on the commercialization of biologic prescription medicines. This full-time paid internship opportunity is for the summer of 2019. We are seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or an engineering discipline. Overview of the Assignment: The objective of this internship is to optimize methods for producing ‘ready-to-use’ cell lines for bioassay testing. The internship will focus on optimizing methods for cryopreservation of the cell lines and optimizing methods for thawing/cell line reconstitution. Responsibilities: This is a lab-based internship where the intern will conduct multifactorial experiments to allow cell lines to be cryopreserved and reconstituted under different conditions. The intern will ultimately conduct experiments to allow the different strategies to be evaluated against each other to identify an optimal cryopreservation formulation and a corresponding method to reconstitute the respective frozen cell lines. Requirements: The applicant should have experience passaging and maintaining cells in culture along with experience using analytical techniques to assess cell viability such as flow cytometry. The applicant should also have general laboratory experience and possess basic skills such as accurate pipetting and buffer preparation. |
