What are the objectives/goals of the position?

To allow the interns to gain in-depth exposure to federal legislative and regulatory processes and key federal legislative and regulatory issues in the health care realm. Through this experience, our interns will be afforded the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the federal policy issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry as a whole and more importantly, to learn about federal legislative, regulatory and policy issues affecting our company and our medicines.

What are the primary duties of this position?

The duties of this position include: Tracking and reviewing federal legislation; covering U.S. House and Senate Committee hearings on Capitol Hill, drafting concise reports following those Congressional hearings for federal government affairs and policy staff. Conducting research on various regulatory issues, including FDA and CMS issues, in addition to researching general health care/disease state issues. Assisting in the development of presentation and executive briefing materials on select legislative issues and assisting in the updating of our company facilities catalog, a U.S. site index document. Interns will also have the opportunity to accompany federal government affairs staff to meetings on Capitol Hill.

 
Position Requirements

What technical skills are required?

  • Strong interpersonal, writing and analytical skills preferred. Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point essential.
  • College student majoring in Government affairs, Political Science, Business, Public Policy
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
