AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business focusing on the commercialization of biologic prescription medicines. This full-time paid internship opportunity is for the summer of 2019. We are seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field. Overview of the Assignment: The objective is to learn more about the cause of protein aggregation and particle formation due to container incompatibility. Protein aggregation and particle formation is a concern in biopharma regardless of the type/target of drug. The novel aspect of this project is to learn about the sensitivity of novel biological drugs to different stresses that causes particle formation and understanding what triggers those among the more recent container technologies. Responsibilities: -Actively learning about the objectives of the project and conducting literature search to learn about the science -Following the proper guidelines and trainings for using the instruments and generating scientifically sound data -Keeping track of the produced data in a lab notebook, Excel file, etc -Trouble shooting and problem solving if needed during the project -Participating in the planned event and activity for summer interns 2019, including presentation of data at the science fair by end of the internship. Required Skills: -Basic understanding proteins, large biological molecules, especially antibodies are essential -Experience working with chromatography techniques especially SEC is a plus -Experience working on antibody characterization or particle formation is a plus -Good communication skills, writing and record keeping -Use of Excel and PowerPoint to plot and present data -Last but not least, great attitude for learning |
