AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business focusing on the commercialization of biologic prescription medicines. This full-time paid internship opportunity is for the summer of 2019.

We are seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Biochemical or Chemical Engineering.

Objective and Overview of the Assignment:

To characterize the device assembly process of four different medical device formats and to determine process ranges and understand failure modes. The intern will develop an understanding of each step of the assembly process for each device and help to establish ranges on force-travel distance relationships which he/she will evaluate the effect on the essential performance requirements. This will allow greater confidence in establishing operating ranges for the assembly process of platform devices that MedImmune is currently working with.

Responsibilities:

Work in laboratory and use the assembly lab machine to characterize the range of assembly parameters and assess their effect on device functionality and other essential performance requirements. Intern will be expected to understand how to operate assembly machine and how to run the basic tests for analyzing device functionality.

Required Skills:

  • MS Office experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Data analysis
  • Basic statistics
  • General lab safety awareness
 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, returning to the academic program following AstraZeneca assignment
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 preferred
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Good documentation, writing and communication skills are required.
