Description

The Optical Networking and Sensing Department is seeking a Researcher. The successful candidate will participate in advancing research in long-haul optical transmission technologies. The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team, show critical thinking and fast learning ability in their approach to problem solving.

The goal of our research is to advance limits of long-distance optical communication. The research areas include transmission system design, high speed digital signal processing for coherent communication, advanced modulation design, coding and novel amplification schemes. Our research leads to both award-winning NEC products and publications in top conferences.

 
Position Requirements

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics or a related field
• 5+ years of Domain experience is preferred
• Expertise in physical layer, both in system design and modeling, as well as ability to handle optical fibers, transmission equipment, coherent detection equipment in the laboratory etc.
• Signal processing expertise desirable, i.e., coding, constellation shaping
• Programming experience in Python and MATLAB. Experience with LabView, VPItransmissionMaker, Tensorflow is a plus.
• Background in information theory and machine learning are highly valued
• Able to conduct research independently
• Creativity and independent problem solving
• Able to work in small teams
