What are the objectives/goals of the position?

  • To explore methodology development to inform precision oncology from integrating human genetic data and phenotype data
  • To explore cancer biomarker discovery for precision oncology from analyzing next generation sequencing (NGS) data
  • To gain experience of applying computational Biology and Bioinformatics to advance drug discovery in a pharmaceutical setting

What are the primary duties of this position?

  • The intern will join a leading and dynamic global team of experienced bioinformaticians embedded within AstraZeneca’s oncology unit and have chance to access AstraZeneca’s proprietary oncology data and apply cutting edge NGS technologies to solve pressing oncology problems to help cancer patients with duties below
  • To investigate the relationship between germline variants and clinical outcomes in cancer
  • To Inform drug-target identification, disease segmentation, patient stratification on treatment response in cancer therapies
  • To validate findings using human data and preclinical models including cell lines and mouse models, using DNA and RNA-seq
  • Communicate/present results in AstraZeneca working groups with a multidisciplinary setting

    Position Requirements

    What technical skills are required?

    • Experience in analyzing and interpreting next generation sequencing data, particularly in DNA and RNA-seq
    • Experience in statistical genetics such as GWAS and rare variant analysis
    • Experience in R programing and scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or shell script
    • Experience in both Windows and Linux environment
    • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skill
    • Student must be available for about 12 weeks’ internship
    • Graduate student completed at least one year of graduate program
    • Grade Point Average 3.0+
