About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Position Manager of Web and Digital Strategy

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Web Develoment Manager leads the functional and technical design, development and maintenance for all of Fenway’s online properties, including Fenway’s 2015 MITX Award-winning website,, as well as a variety fundraising and programmatic sites. Working closely with other staff and stakeholders, this position coordinates digital marketing strategies and campaigns across all departments. The Web Development Manager works in close cooperation with members of the Communications team and other Fenway staff that support Fenway’s mission and the work of its various departments and divisions.

Representative Duties:

  1. Design, Develop, and Maintain Web-Based Solutions Including Websites and Applications in Support of Fenway’s Mission and the Fenway Brand.
  • Design, develop troubleshoot and maintain web-based solutions (including websites, applications, and email communications) that support Fenway’s programmatic goals and marketing and communications efforts.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of a variety of content management systems (especially WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and the Convio and HubSpot suites) as well as web design software, web applications and components, web hosting management tools, and web production software products (Adobe CC).
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current web development languages and techniques (HTML5, CSS3, PHP, jQuery, JavaScript & MySQL)
  • Define, build and deploy user interface features and workflows that optimize user experience and work as seamlessly as possible with existing infrastructure and backend systems.
  • Support search engine optimization and Google Analytics analysis and reporting.
  • Provide internal technical support for web-based solutions (including websites, applications, email communications, social media, and/or blog posts)
  • Design and develop ShortStack application pages for data, lead generation, and other promotional and awareness efforts.
  • Lead strategy and application of ongoing SEO, ADA and usability strategies.
  • Troubleshoot errors in Facebook Developers Console
  • Implement Google Event Tracking for multi-purpose interaction data collection.
  • Ensure consistency and adherence to Fenway Health brand guidelines across all platforms
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies and trends in web development & design

  • Serve on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested

Position Requirements


  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of an additional 3-5 years of professional web development and design experience.
  • Strong front-end web development skills (demonstrated ability to code HTML5, CSS3, PHP, jQuery, JavaScript, MySQL, XML & AJAX).
  • Strong understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and solutions.
  • Experience working with responsive design.
  • Experience working with various Content Management Systems (WordPress, Drupal and/or Joomla).
  • Proficiency in Adobe applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & Dreamweaver is preferred
  • Experience working with or ability to quickly learn web marketing platforms including WordPress, Shortstack, Facebook Business Manager, Salesforce, Google Analytics & Webmaster Tools, Google Data Studio and Event Tracking.
  • AExperience collecting and analyzing user and performance data from a variety of web and social media platforms.
  • Experience with API integrations a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communications ability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects (working both independently, cross-departmentally and cooperatively with your subordinates), problem solve, and to be solution-oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, often hectic environment, and have the ability to meet deadlines and work within a team environment
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse work staff is preferred
