AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business focusing on the commercialization of biologic prescription medicines. This full-time paid internship opportunity for the summer of 2019 is within the MS&T department.

We are seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Biotechnology.

Overview/Objective of the Assignment:

Growth rate data specific to certain microorganisms would allow us to make better informed science driven decisions regarding potential timing of bioreactor contaminations therefore driving better root cause analysis. Perform analysis of AZ site/network and perform survey common industry environmental and process microbial recoveries. Determine growth rates (lag time and doubling time) in proprietary (AZ) and standard (research) NS0 and CHO cell culture medium, quantify endotoxin (where applicable) and survey for exotoxin potential. Establish a library of specific isolate information and publish findings as a scientific article/paper.

Responsibilities:

Identify, culture and quantify bioburden within various growth medium. Perform literature search of exotoxin capabilities for common contaminants.

Required Skills:

Aseptic Technique, Routine Bacteriology Laboratory Techniques (microbial culture, medium preparation, serial dilution, growth curve determination), Literature search and data analysis.

  • We are looking for rising Sophomores, Juniors, or Senior undergrad students
