Job Summary:

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world's premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.

We are presently seeking a Theater Technical Supervisor to work in partnership with the Manager of Theater Operations to ensure a premier movie theater experience at the Academy Museum's Theaters. The Theater Technical Supervisor is the technical expert for the movie theaters, working hand and hand with the Manager on the day-to-day management of 2 theaters and other related spaces as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and administer equipment maintenance timetables and checklists that ensure technical equipment is properly maintained in good working order, that equipment is regularly tested, and that replacement equipment and stock is ordered as needed.
  • Assist with the museum in design, selection, procurement, and installation of all AV equipment for theaters/non-theaters (except exhibitions).
  • Oversee systems integration and theater commissioning.
  • Coordinate with Theater Standard Group.
  • Oversee acquisition, repair, and installation of film projection equipment.
  • Develop plan for management of all technical aspects of Public Programs and Events.
  • Manage all theater technical operations.
  • Manage Dolby and other support vendors.
  • Oversee maintenance all theater and AV equipment.
  • Coordinate with theater operating staff to ensure successful programs and events.
  • Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, and communications equipment.
  • Assist in recruiting and training technical staff for individual shows as needed.
  • Ensure that the technical operation of the theatre is always safe and complies with ALL CAL-OSHA and industry standards.
  • Assist the Manager on operational matters during performances.
  • Coordinate load-in schedule with departments and vendors as needed.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre, Technical Theatre, Theatre Design, or a related field of study preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theater technology, lighting design, sound design, and theater operation.
  • Must be familiar with basic digital film equipment.
  • Must be familiar with Digital servers – Dolby, Doremi, Christie 4K HFR IMB, Barco DP4K-40LHC, QUBE Cinema, etc.
  • Experience as a projectionist is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety and hazard procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices applicable to theaters.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye to organizing data.
  • Ability to lift and/or move a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
