AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the commercialization of biologics prescription medicines. We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, BioChemistry, Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or an Engineering discipline. Overview/Scope of the Internship Assignment: The objective of this internship is to develop analytical methods to monitor critical analytes in spent tissue culture media. Methods will be developed to quantitate lipids, amino acids, metals and/or vitamins/co-factors within the matrix of spent tissue culture media. Ultimately these methods will support upstream excursion (manufacturing) investigations to identify potential root causes for poor cell growth. Responsibilities: This is a lab-based internship where the intern utilizes liquid/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry approaches to quantitate critical factors (such as lipids, amino acids, metals and vitamins) in tissue culture media. Ultimately these studies will be used to (1) judge the feasibility of different analytical approaches (2) refine and optimize select methods and (3) ultimately qualify new analytical methods to support MS&T (manufacturing) investigations. Requirements: The applicant should have hands on experience with chromatograpy (liquid or gas) and/or mass spectrometry. Applicants should have general experience using quantitative chemical approaches including liquid/liquid or solid phase extractions. The applicant should have general laboratory experience (scientific notebook) and possess basic lab skills such as accurate pipetting and buffer preparation. We are looking for a rising Sophomore or Junior, but would also be open to rising Seniors. Minimum GPA of 3.0 |
