SUMMARY: Open Door Community Health Centers (ODCHC) is committed to providing a comprehensive array of services to our surrounding communities. Our Recovery Support Specialists work one-on-one and in groups with patients to help them overcome substance use dependencies. The Recovery Support Specialist facilitates support groups, provides one-on-one counseling, assists patients integrate into the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program and primary medical care services of ODCHC, and works alongside patients and families to create a care plan specific to their needs. This position requires a hardworking individual who is patient, caring and community-minded. Experience and familiarity with community resources is preferred. Must have obtained certification as an AOD Counselor from one of California’s Drug and Alcohol Counselor certification programs, or become a participant in such a program within three months of employment and achieve certification within 30 months of registration.

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides individual, group and family counseling focused on overcoming substance abuse dependencies.

  • Facilitates support groups; assists with the integration of the Suboxone Program and Needle Exchange Programs.

  • Interview clients, review records, and confer with other professionals in order to evaluate individuals' mental and physical condition, and to determine their suitability for participation in a specific program.

  • Performs intake interviews, confer with the provider on assessments, information and referrals, and counseling for patients with substance abuse issues to support individual rehabilitation.

  • Develops curriculum and educational materials for substance abuse programs.

  • Works with selected patients, upon referral from the providers, to develop, implement, and monitor an effective treatment plan.

  • Review and evaluate clients' progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment and care plans.

  • Plan and implement follow-up and aftercare programs for clients.

  • Facilitates and promotes effective communication between the patient, the primary care provider and other service providers.

  • Provide patient, family members and/or care providers with information about addiction issues and about available services and programs, making appropriate referrals when necessary.

  • Works with Medical Director in developing & implementing models of care for patients with substance abuse issues.

  • Monitors barriers and access issues, making recommendations to management on areas for future attention.

  • Maintains current information on community resources, programs, and services.

  • Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports. Maintains documentation for various enabling programs.

  • Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as designated by supervisor.

  • Adheres to ODCHC’s attendance policy.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of individual, group and family counseling; and psychological, physiological and sociological aspects of substance abuse.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to establish constructive working relationships with a large variety of individuals of diverse backgrounds, including public, private, and professional groups.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clinicians, support staff, clients, and the general public.

  • Ability to work independently, when needed, in the development and coordination of a program.

  • Ability to effectively represent ODCHC’s interests in the community.

  • Strong computer skills.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification as a Drug & Alcohol Counselor.Certification must be from approved California Department of Drug and Alcohol Program.

  • Must have two years’ experience providing drug and alcohol counseling and education services

  • Experience and familiarity with community resources.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person, at normal volumes.

  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.

  • Good manual dexterity.

  • Ability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time, and negotiate stairs.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation.

 
Wage Range Wage dependent on experience.$17.50/hr. starting
