Job Summary:

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world's premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.

We are looking for a Human Resources Manager to join and lead our Human Resources department in the Academy Museum. The HR Manager will partner with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) HR team to create and implement Museum policies and procedures, and promote positive staff relations to minimize risk.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures HR policies and procedures are applied consistently and comprehensively and that documentation is maintained.
  • Coaches and advises managers and staff on policies and procedures related to personnel management, providing recommendations for training or additional actions as needed.
  • Serves as point of contact for staff questions or complaints, including HR policies, benefits, reports of harassment, or other misconduct by co-workers or managers.
  • Conducts initial investigations and confers with legal counsel and AMPAS as appropriate.
  • Offers consultation, facilitation and resolution strategies for workplace issues.
  • Assists in communications between staff and managers. Assists with all of the steps in the disciplinary action process.
  • Coordinates staff social engagement and morale building activities.
  • Works directly with hiring managers to recruit, interview, select and hire staff, including developing, implementing and continuously improving a comprehensive on-boarding and Museum orientation program for new staff.
  • Manages staff exit/termination process; conducts or participates in all exit interviews.
  • Maintains and updates personnel files.
  • Assists managers in developing staff goals and systems of evaluation or measurement.
  • Advises management of changes in federal/state and local laws and regulations relating to staff and the workplace environment.
  • Works closely with the Director of Administration and Operations to budget annual departmental spending, and monitor such spending to ensure expenses are within the approved budget.
  • Establishes annual departmental goals and objectives in partnership with the Director of Administration and Operations.
  • Develops and coordinates staff recognition programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR management.
  • Knowledge of best practices and methodology related to the operations of a Human Resources Department; understanding recruitment, selection, classification, compensation, employee relations, training, and labor laws.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration; current Federal, State, and local employment law; principles of organization and management.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence to build trust and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to keep sensitive information secure and confidential.
