Title: Research Assistant

Type: Active

Program: Autism Research Centre

Reports to: Clinician Scientist

Work Status: Temporary Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)

Contract: 7 month contract with possibility of extension; Start date - February 2019

We are seeking a Research Assistant with experience working with children and young people with autism and their families. As a Research Assistant within the Autism Research Centre, the successful candidate will work alongside an interdisciplinary research team on the Autism Treatment Network, a multi-site project focused on improving medical care for children and adolescents with autism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing research support to the Principal Investigator (PI), you will perform activities delegated by the PI
  • Responsible for recruitment, coordinating and scheduling appointments, data collection, facilitating informed consent/assent, and supporting all families' understanding of the procedures and implications of the research study
  • Support in the preparation of required reports (annual and interim), presentations, and contribute to manuscripts
  • Support in the development and implementation of strategies to disseminate information to the community and to families
  • Coordinate with other local and national ATN sites, coordinators, PIs and funders
  • Work with clinic staff to develop and test quality improvement initiatives
  • Perform participant interviews, assessments as required by study protocol
  • Score and enter data for standardized assessments, interviews, and questionnaires
  • Ensure research is conducted in compliance with the Bloorview Research Ethics Board (REB) and Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS-2)
  • Support the completion of research ethics submissions, amendments and renewals
  • Maintain study documentation and complete regulatory paperwork
  • Participate in remote monthly site video-conference calls, as well as working groups

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in sciences, social sciences or a health related discipline
  • Post-graduate education in fields specific to behavioural science/autism, child development, early childhood education, etc. or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with children with ASD and/or developmental disabilities and their families
  • Research experience, which has garnered you an understanding of research policies and procedures and experience working on multi-site studies and quality improvement is an asset
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in administering psychological assessments, parental interviews, and questionnaires is an asset
  • Ability to function independently, and yet collaboratively, within a research team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer software skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access)
