Share Email Opening Title Civil Technician III  Description The person in this position provides engineering support in any process being conducted within the city or the public sector such as street paving, water, gas, stormwater, erosion control, driveways and sanitary sewer projects. Responsible for routine and construction inspection of underground utilities and stormwater systems Prepares monthly pay estimates for construction projects Interprets and explains plans and specifications to contractors Responsible for GIS map revisions Responsible for drafting plans and profile sheets for various projects Performs various survey/construction related calculations Provides construction stakeout and coordination support to Operations and Public Works Collects and manages engineering and mapping related data Occasionally provides direction to Civil Technician II and Civil Technician I Performs related duties as assigned.   Position Requirements Should have considerable knowledge of the basic principles and practices of surveying and/or construction as applied to street paving and underground utilities. Should have the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the public, engineers, and contractors.        Should have knowledge of methods and techniques of surveying Should have knowledge of selecting, processing, placing and testing of construction materials Should have general knowledge of policies, regulations and methods of the City of Thomasville Should have the ability to interpret plans and specifications Should be able to maintain safe construction staging within the project limits Should be able to work independently and capable of making minor decisions in the field Should be able to communicate with Engineers regarding changed conditions Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Should have at least five (5) years experience as a Civil Technician II or equivalent Must have a valid driver's license.   Physical/Environmental Requirements The environmental working conditions of this position will include very frequently working around high/low temperatures, dust or fumes, and working inside and outside.
