What are we looking for in a Residential Counselor?

The Residential Counselor works within an interdisciplinary team to provide case management and supportive counseling to clients within our Pathways residential treatment facility. Pathways is a 16-bed residential treatment facility for adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Residents receive integrated, intensive treatment that focuses on stabilization and long-term recovery for both mental health & substance use disorders simultaneously. In collaboration with therapists, nurses, chemical dependency professionals, and medical providers, the Residential Counselor will work to engage residents in treatment, lead skill-building groups, and support clients in their recovery process. This position is best suited to someone who can establish rapport quickly, is knowledgeable about recovery principles, and who can keep a positive attitude in the midst of challenges.

Residential Counselor duties may include:

  • providing supportive counseling and case management for clients
  • facilitating behavioral health treatment and educational groups
  • collaborating with each client to develop an individualized treatment plan
  • assessing clients for safety and risk to self or others, and taking appropriate crisis intervention measures when indicated
  • monitoring clients’ symptoms and medication response
  • completing all documentation in a respectful, client-centered manner
 
Position Requirements

Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field.

Credentials: Current certification for Chemical Dependency Professional or Trainee in Washington State. Must be eligible for Agency Affiliated Counselor registration.
