The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world's premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.

The Manager of Theater Operations is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced theater manager. The position will lead the development of policy and procedures, hire staff and train the of Academy Museum's Theater team. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the premier theatre experience in Los Angeles at the Academy Museum's Theater. This will include ensuring seamless operations for every show and delivery of a best in class customer service experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the administration and scheduling of the theater department to ensure a premier experience for the theaters.
  • Develop and ensure that department systems, procedures and practices to support effective operations while providing outstanding customer service.
  • Project an image of friendliness, professionalism and willingness to provide personalized services to all members, clients, vendors, employees, and guests.
  • Maintain budgets and budgetary goals for the theater.
  • Recruit, train and manage all theater staff, including projectionist and the Theater Technical Supervisor and any additional theater staff. Ensuring that they are knowledgeable and responsible for the technical operation and maintenance of the Academy Museum theaters.
  • Ensure the theater facilities are in optimal condition for an exceptional movie experience, including the support spaces, tech spaces and greenrooms.
  • Provide input to the museum in design, selection, procurement, and installation of all AV equipment for theaters/non-theaters (except exhibitions).
  • Lead production meetings for both in-house programming and outside vendors, oversee and schedule tech rehearsals, sound checks, and projection checks.
  • Serve as a liaison with Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, museum departments, studios, and other vendors regarding production, security and visitor services for all outside rental events.
  • Serve as the Academy Museum liaison to the Theater Standards Committee.
  • Develop plan for management of all technical aspects of Public Programs and Event

 
Position Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience working in a theater in a managerial role with significant working knowledge of best practices to develop high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theater technology, lighting design, sound design, and theater operations.
  • Proven effectiveness in planning, assigning, directing, motivating and reviewing the work of employees.
  • Must enjoy working with the public and demonstrate friendliness, professionalism, enthusiasm and a customer-centric approach.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Experience starting a new organization desired.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and reliable automobile with proof of acceptable automobile insurance.
