Definition and Purpose Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director – Facility Operations (University Union), the Building Service Worker is responsible for custodial and maintenance duties as assigned and does other work as required. Educational and Qualifying Experience, Skills, Licenses, Credentials Educational/License/Credential Requirements High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Experience Requirements Minimum one (1) year experience as a custodian in a large facility that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Knowledge/Skill Requirements Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position. General knowledge of office methods, equipment, procedures, and practices. Knowledge of Windows-based computer systems. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written. Demonstrated ability to work well with others on diverse teams. Ability to use and care for custodial equipment and supplies. Ability to follow directions. Supervisory Responsibilities Oversee student staff daily checklists and coordinate task completion. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clean and maintain all public interior surfaces to include glass, floors, windows, blinds, furniture, whiteboards, counters, etc. Clean and maintain all ballrooms, conference rooms and offices. Clean and maintain restrooms to meet daily health and safety standards, including effective disinfection of urinals, toilets, restroom flooring, sinks, and counters. Clean and maintain exterior of the facility including glass, trash removal, walkways, and plaza. Replenish lavatory supplies, empty wastebaskets, and remove trash. Assist with special event needs, including set-ups, take-downs, and special event cleaning needs. Clean and maintain all interior furniture to include tables, chairs, couches and lounges. Clean and maintain tile flooring, to include stripping and waxing on regular intervals. Provide special event services as needed to events in the University Union, to include concurrent cleaning, periodic trash removal as necessary, and extra attention during large events. Safeguard building and equipment from unauthorized use. Clean and maintain carpet in offices, lobby areas, conference rooms, and lounges. Use and maintain specialized custodial equipment. Maintain an awareness of safety procedures, intervene if an activity is unsafe, and report practices that do not meet safety standards. Assessment Develop and execute assessment of programs and/or services for areas of responsibility including but not limited to setting and implementing goals, evaluating outcomes and ongoing enhancement. Participate in the overall ASI assessment planning and goal setting. Other Duties and Responsibilities Represent ASI on committees as appropriate. Ensure continuous professional development. The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
