About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Description

Function
As the Safety and Security Specialist, you will assist the Director in integrating safety, security, and emergency management programs into the strategic objectives of the organization. You will be responsible for assisting the Director in developing, implementing and managing all of the organization's safety and security strategies, programs and procedures. You will identify and be informed about the nature and types of safety and security risks that may affect the organization, its personnel, patients/clients/customers and visitors at all Fenway Health locations.

Representative Duties

Develop and implement safety and security policies, protocols and procedures.

  1. Conduct daily safety and security operations at assigned location(s)
  2. Assist in developing, and implementing security, emergency response, and crisis management procedures with sensitivity to the unique culture of each location.
  3. Review reports on incidents and breaches in order to identify risks and areas for improvement.
  4. Assist in the operation of CCTV and Access Control Systems for assigned locations, including access card programming for employees and others
  5. Assist in conducting investigations as required
  6. Work collaboratively Fenway Health employees and contractors and others

Assist in developing and delivering training for all staff and consultants on safety and security.

  • Become certified as an instructor in the following areas:
    1. CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
    2. ALICE Violent Incident Response
    3. Until Help Arrives
    4. Others as required
  • Provide staff and consultants with training on policies, protocols and procedures, as necessary

Assist with budget development for safety and security operations and monitor expenses.

  • Make recommendations to the Director for capital improvement projects to enhance safety and security.

Supervise and train Contract Security Officers, as needed.

  • Ensure security personnel are trained on policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure security personnel are trained on providing LGBT and other culturally competent customer service to patients, staff and visitors.
  • Monitor logging system to ensure personnel are present as contracted.
  • Define expectations for tours and checkpoints throughout locations where security officers are assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a security professional, law enforcement officer or similar position. Prior security experience in a health care environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience using relevant technology and equipment (e.g. CCTV, access control and intrusion systems, panic alarms, etc.)
  • Experience in reporting and emergency response planning
  • Knowledge of security protocols and procedures
  • Solid understanding of budgeting and statistical data analysis
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Committed and reliable as the position will require the incumbent to be available 24/7 should safety or security emergencies occur.
  • High school diploma; Further education and/or certifications in security administration or similar fields, such as a CPP certification, is highly desirable.
  • Compensation package is commensurate with salary history and experience
