Description

Come join our amazing team at our Parkway Program Site! We support individuals with development and intellectual disabilities, many with Autism, and a wide variety of skills and interests.

  • Offer opportunities to individuals, onsite and in the community, to build employment skills.
  • Support individuals to enjoy recreational and leisure activities: using technology including smart boards, music and pet therapy, art, yoga, shopping, nature centers, museums and more.
  • Support achieving personal goals through meaningful experiences and programs.
  • Be a part of our workplace that’s diverse, team-oriented and focused on meeting the unique needs of people.
  • Complete paid on the job training including Autism Competency Certification I.

Job Summary

General

  • Receptive to learning and applying new skills, techniques and approaches relating to services for people with autism, e.g., applied behavioral analysis (ABA).
  • Demonstrate flexibility, anticipate and respond effectively to change.
  • Successfully work as part of a team.
  • Display organizational skills and good judgment ensuring the ability to work effectively and independent of direct supervision.

Service Delivery

  • Use positive approaches that empower coping techniques during personal challenges.
  • Effectively implement therapy programs.
  • Identify potential problems and take corrective action.
  • Support the acquisition of independent skills for maintaining a neat and clean appearance; provide personal assistance as necessary.
  • Consistently use the least restrictive instructional technique/physical contact to enhance independence and support achievement.
  • Engage and encourage active participation in the community as well as PAI opportunities.
  • Promptly document assigned related service information as assigned (e.g. outcome data, phone log, applied behavioral assessment data, etc.).
  • Uphold all protection and service related rights including respect and maintenance of privacy.

Some positions include:

  • Provide on-site support, instruction and supervision to PAI workers at a community-based job.
  • Collaborate with the PAI worker’s employer and co-workers to effectively determine successful on-the-job strategies.
  • Transport PAI workers to and from their community job as needed using a PAI vehicle or their own vehicle (mileage reimbursed).

Communication/Interpersonal Skills

  • Professionally communicate internal and external information regarding PAI or individual programs.
  • Promptly provide supervisor with information regarding needed services or modifications.
  • Ensure that individual preferences/full potential are embraced.
  • Contribute ideas in meetings.

Position Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 21+ years of age
  • Pass a OIG and DHS background study and maintain approved status without continuous supervision
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
  • Energetic, personable, enjoy trying new things and working as part of a team
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving skill to support developmental and emotional needs
  • Ability and interest in assisting with personal cares, lifting and transferring.

Requirements to drive a PAI vehicle:

  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • May be asked to complete DOT physical, drug and alcohol testing
  • Demonstrate driving proficiency for assigned vehicle
  • Meet driving history insurance criteria
 
Preferred Requirements: Experience with persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders/Developmental Disabilities
