191010 - Library Services Administrator, County Library Relations & District Consultant

Job Summary: The position of Library Services Administrator (LSA) – County Library Relations and District Consultant provides leadership and direction for public library service within Allegheny County consistent with CLP’s role as District Library Center and County Library. This position will serve as the primary contact for county library staff for CLP services. The person in this role will forge relationships with appropriate staff internal to CLP and within county libraries, identify and leverage resources within CLP and across the District, and ensure that connections are made to facilitate effective library service for all.

The responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing CLP’s role as District Library Center and County Library; developing and implementing the Pittsburgh District’s Five Year Plan;
  • Provide CLP leadership to county-wide library initiatives including shared services, joint initiatives, cooperative endeavors;
  • Identifying, developing, implementing and evaluating initiatives and activities in conjunction with CLP and County Library staff to improve the quality of library service county-wide and raise the profile of public libraries across the community;
  • Working with and leading colleagues at all levels to overcome barriers to library use, including policies, time, location, transportation, accessibility and awareness;
  • Building effective teams and developing skills and abilities of staff through coaching, learning opportunities, direct and indirect work assignments, building and extending trust, and empowering library staff to work toward shared goals;
  • Leadership and participation in CLP and county-wide activities such as committees, task forces and work teams and modeling behaviors in patron-focused service, self-directed learning, strategic thinking and planning, and personal accountability;
  • Advocating on behalf of libraries to ensure their roles as community assets and maintaining strong reciprocal relationships with other libraries throughout the region and across the state;
  • Evaluating the success of their efforts and continuously improving programs, services and staff to respond to changing needs through data collection and analysis; and generating and sharing the vision of the future-focused library.
Position Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university;
  • Seven years of progressive experience and increasing responsibility in a public library, including demonstrated leadership capabilities;
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills, including the ability to resolve problems effectively;
  • Continuously improve and innovate delivery of services and content physically and virtually;
  • Make decisions for the betterment of CLP as a system and the Pittsburgh District using independent judgment and understanding of CLP’s strategic directions;
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse public, peers and staff;
  • Represent CLP to the community (in a library service area, interest area, or special initiatives);
  • Lead, motivate, develop and supervise staff and volunteers;
  • Communicate positively, professionally and effectively; in both written and verbal forms;
  • Interpret and implement policy to staff, customers, and community;
  • Learn, competently use, and demonstrate technology in all forms;
  • PA State Criminal Background Check and PA Child Abuse History Clearance upon offer of employment.

Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time  
Work Hours Generally 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday; with additional time on evenings and weekends as needed to support library and related events.  
Salary $70,000 - $78,000 annually
