The SEI helps advance software engineering principles and practices and serves as a national resource in software engineering, computer security, and process improvement. The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to continually improve software-intensive systems. Position Summary:

As an Atlassian Administrator, you be responsible for building, implementing, and maintaining Atlassian applications that power our enterprise software development platform and several internet-facing services. This includes providing technical support and training to end users.

Here’s an idea of the kind of tasks you’d be working on:

  • Build, operate, and maintain Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo applications.
  • Work with technical and non-technical teams to understand their needs and make suggestions and recommendations on how to use Atlassian applications to address those needs.
  • Collaborate with development teams to help them use Atlassian applications to track issues, collaborate on projects, and build / deploy software.
  • Provide training to technical and non-technical users on how to use Atlassian tools.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and fix issues related to development, applications, and application servers.

This small team has a big job for its size. You will use your experience as a highly motivated, creative, and versatile information technology professional to not only manage several applications, but periodically roll up your sleeves and collaborate with other teams on new initiatives and projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 3 years of experience administering Atlassian applications
  • Experience as a user and administrator of Atlassian applications
  • Willingness to travel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission. This includes within the SEI and CMU community, sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings on occasion
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required in order to meet production deadlines or handle maintenance windows outside normal business hours
  • Participate in an on call after hour’s rotation for user support with average call volume of 3-5 calls/week
  • You will be to background check and must be eligible to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working understanding of internet protocols and demonstrated script writing (e.g., Python, Bash) skills.
  • Familiarity with databases and SQL competence
  • Experience with Windows and Linux server operating systems
  • Understanding of continuous integration and version control systems
  • Ability to collaborate across functional teams to achieve desired outcomes
  • Excellent analytics, organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers, especially in requirements gathering
  • Knowledge of Linux systems in the areas of security, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Proficient knowledge of client server environments, networking, and client operating systems
  • Comfortable working with tight deadlines across multiple projects
  • Operates with transparency and integrity, and welcomes feedback

Desired Experience:

  • Master’s degree in information technology, engineering, computer sciences, or related discipline
  • 5 years of experience managing Atlassian applications such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
  • Certified in administering one or more Atlassian applications
  • Excellent understanding of Jira workflows, permission schemes, notification schemes, etc.
  • Experience managing a development stack that supports a DevOps community
  • Experience with MySQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Puppet, Nagios, and Docker
  • Familiarity with virtualized infrastructure environments
  • Experience packaging and deploying software with tools like Puppet or Chef
  • Flexibility and creativity in solution design including leveraging emerging technologies

Job Function Breakdown:

45% Maintain and evolve enterprise and internet-facing web applications and services

  • Build, operate, and maintain Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo applications.
  • Evaluate, test, and deploy software upgrades
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve reported issues
  • Adhere to change management practices and communicate changes and impact to those affected.
  • Research, recommend, and implement Atlassian plugins.
  • Install, manage, and support various development tools, testing tools, and monitoring tools.
  • Plan, evaluate, deploy, operate, and maintain tools to support the expanding user-base.

35% Provide technical assistances to users and project teams

  • Work with technical and non-technical teams to understand their needs and make suggestions and recommendations on how to use Atlassian applications to address their needs.
  • Collaborate with development teams to help them use Atlassian applications to track issues, collaborate on projects, and build / deploy software.
  • Provide training to technical and non-technical users to use Atlassian tools.
  • Perform outreach to develop working relationships with customers, increase user adoption, and collect feedback
  • Provide end-user support to field questions and resolve problems
  • Actively monitor and maintain help desk tickets and provide thorough documentation for problem resolution tickets.

10% Maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrading other services

  • Assist other IT teams with maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading enterprise technologies as required.

5% Documentation

  • Create and maintain technical documentation as it relates to software and system configurations, review procedural documentation, and recommend updates as necessary.

5% Other duties as assigned
