The Planning Technician will assist with community planning, zoning, and public engagement efforts. Position will provide technical support to Planning Department staff, customers, and the general public on issues related to planning, zoning, and development.
Position receives supervision from the City Planner and is expected to work independently and in a team setting with minimum supervision.
Perform administrative duties for all Planning Department boards including: processing applications, preparing public notices, submitting required legal advertisements, preparing agendas, preparing packets and e-packets, taking meeting minutes, and processing board decisions.
Perform routine office tasks including answering the telephone for the department, routing calls to correct staff or department, and answering simple questions for the Department and its divisions.
Maintain a digital and hard-copy filing system.
Assist Planning staff in reviewing permit applications of limited complexity to assure compliance.
Type letters and all other correspondence for the department and its divisions from dictation or handwritten copy. Use the following computer programs: Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Microsoft Publisher and Outlook.
Assist with monitoring budget for the department.
Responsible for paying all bills/invoices for the department and its divisions.
Provide excellent customer service as the first contact between the public and the department. Deals with the general public on a daily basis.
Ability to conduct research of limited complexity to locate properties and property owners, and identify surrounding and adjacent uses.
Ability to review maps to determine if a property is located within a historic preservation district or to determine the zoning district.
Responsible for scheduling of appointments and maintaining the calendar for department staff.
Serve as back up for Engineering Administrative Assistant.
