Description

The service writer is at the forefront of the service department, and consequently he/she often is the service department's representative staff member. Accordingly, the service writer must be courteous, knowledgeable, and focused on understanding and meeting the needs of the customer. He/she must be able to quickly and efficiently identify the problem(s) in question, clarify any additional details needed, collaborate with co-workers to provide any feedback required, and propose a realistic solution to the customer. Managing the customer's expectations as they relate to timelines and budgets is an integral responsibility of the service writer. The service writer must have an intermediate working knowledge of parts and service as he/she frames and communicates all repair orders to the customer with clarity and brevity. The service writer must be a dynamic team member who readily collaborates with all department personnel as an advocate for the successful and timely completion of repair orders.

  • Listens to customer's description of symptoms; clarifying description of problems and needs.
  • Verifies warranty and service contract coverage by examining records and papers.
  • Develops estimates by costing parts, supplies, and labor; calculates customer's payment, including deductibles.
  • Prepares repair orders (RO's) by recording stated problems, as well as repairs and services required; obtaining approval signatures; entering RO into marina service database system.
  • Maintains rapport with co-workers by accurately communicating needs of customers including services requested, timelines requested, etc.
  • Maintains customer rapport by explaining estimates and expected time frame; obtaining customer's approval of estimates; obtaining and providing contact telephone numbers; answering questions and concerns; communicating customer issues with higher level management. Maintains organized records by recording problems and corrective actions planned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficiency with a variety of technological applications and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply computer skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
