We have five locations spanning the eastern Twin Cities of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Position Summary

Associated Eye Care is currently seeking a Pediatric Technician. This individual is responsible for gathering essential medical information from the patient, performing a variety of diagnostic tests and screenings, and providing the ophthalmic provider with needed information to accurately assess the patient’s ocular health.

Candidates must be able to work full-time and have the ability and willingness to travel to the practice’s five locations located in the east Metro and western Wisconsin.

Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and teammates
  • Respond appropriately within level of certification and promptly to patients questions
  • Efficiently and accurately work up patient for comprehensive and subspecialty optometrists and ophthalmologists
  • Accurately document information gathered during exam in accordance with AEC’s procedures and policies
  • Assist providers in meeting governmental and coding requirements
  • Abide by all policies and procedures as outlined in AEC’s employee handbook
  • Participate in regular team meetings to ensure effective team performance and advance inter-department communications; this may require afterhours work
  • Responsible for ongoing professional self-development

Other Essential Functions

  • Must be willing and able to work a variety of hours and work in the various locations as needed. The locations include: Hudson, Hugo, New Richmond, Stillwater, Woodbury and any partner facility
  • Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time
  • Must manage personal issues during provided break times and keeps breaks with allotted time
  • Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education & Licensing

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, required
  • Ophthalmic training required: either in a formal program or at previous employer
  • COA, COT, or COMT preferred

Experience

  • 2-3 Years experience as technician preferred
  • Experience with an EHR system preferred

Job Specific Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the eye and the extraocular muscles
  • Working knowledge of systemic diseases that affect the eye
  • Working knowledge of ocular diseases and their affect on vision and patient function
  • Comprehensive understanding of the theory and logic for conducting specific testing procedures
  • Ability to work with children and families to obtain necessary information while maintaining a calming environment for the child
  • Strong technical skills including but not limited to: reading glasses, obtaining visual acuity using multiple methods, stereoacuity, advanced motility and versions, pupils, angles, tonometry using multiple methods, retinoscopy and refractometry
  • Strong ancillary testing skills pertaining to strabismus including but not limited to: convergence amplitudes, the use of +3.00 lenses at near for an accommodative ET patient, the use of minus lenses for an intermittent XT patient, etc.
