Registered Nurse (RN) - Contact Center, Part-time 

Location Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan Area  
Full-Time/Part-Time Part-Time  
Shift Rotating Days and Evenings  


Pine Rest is seeking a Registered Nurse with a strong medical background to join our Contact Center team in a part-time capacity. The Contact Center RN is responsible for providing the facilitation of medical clearance protocols and serves as resource to Contact Center Clinicians in reviewing medical needs of referred persons. This position will be scheduled to work in a part-time capacity and in a combination of day and evening shifts. Previous experience providing medical screening, nurse to nurse assessments, and determining medical necessity and clinical appropriateness for inpatient admission is preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assesses patient care needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and continually reassesses plan of care according to patient care needs.
  • Completes RN to RN handoff with referring agency.
  • In collaboration with general medicine, develops plan for safe admission of patient.
  • Responsible for documenting, reporting and verifying all necessary information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to monitor for and report to the admitting physician any potential risk to patient safety that could lead to an adverse outcome.
  • Creates a customer/client friendly environment by following quality improvement standards, maintaining professionalism, initiating and maintaining positive relationships with departments, co-workers and external customers.
  • Provides care with diverse patient populations. Identifies specific patient needs and implements patient centered, compassionate care.
  • Responsible for the utilization and continued review of patient care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care. Gives input into process for improvement.
  • Utilizes and promotes careful use of resources.
  • Demonstrate understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one's training, discipline, and education/license level.
  • As Contact Center is open 24/7, staff will be required to work evenings and weekends. .
  • Participates regularly in departmental and staff meetings. Serves on programs or organizational committees as required and as time and workload allow.
  • May provide training to interns and on boarding clinicians as assigned.
  • Responsible to role model the mission and values of the organization, presenting a professional image that is projected in appearance, attitudes and behaviors, time management and communication skills. Provides spiritual, emotional, social, mental and physical support to patients.
  • Commitment to demonstrating Relationship Based Case in Hospital Based Services.
  • Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in the required programmatic training.
  • Performs other duties or functions as assigned.

Position Requirements

Required/Desired Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Licensed to practice in the state of Michigan
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.

  • Ability to provide care/service within the scope of: Holding a conviction to express Christ’s love and compassion to recipients of services, coworkers, and surrounding communities through integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity, and professional excellence.
  • Ability to provide cultural competent care with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community setting
  • Work requires professional knowledge of psychiatric nursing theory as required through completion of education from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Satisfactory previous clinical experience.
  • Requires physical and emotional stamina to deal with physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs of patients.
  • Ability to work in a potentially adverse environment.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to collect, analyze and interpret complex patient data, to determine importance of information collected and the ability provide this data to providers and other team members as necessary.
  • The candidate may be required to have a valid Michigan driver’s license and ability access Pine Rest Transportation Vehicles for the performance of job duties.

About the Organization Pine Rest is a nonprofit, free standing, behavioral health system founded in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This comprehensive behavioral health center, coupled with the Pine Rest network of 18 outpatient clinics and satellite offices in Michigan and Iowa, provide individualized and group therapy for people of all ages and all levels of need. Pine Rest clinicians offer therapeutic services in behavioral health for people of all ages and all levels of need across the continuum of care within a Christian framework.

Pine Rest has a 198-bed inpatient hospital program with a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient and a large partial hospital program for adolescents. Additionally, Pine Rest has many inpatient services for adults, including: four 22-bed adult inpatient units each designed for a different level of acuity, a 22-bed co-occurring substance use disorder adult inpatient unit, a large adult partial hospital program, and a 26-bed older adult inpatient unit.

The Pine Rest Community and Residential Services Division also provides a wide array of services. With over 220 residential beds across a variety of programs, including treatment for substance use disorders, homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, adults with mental illness, and a program for youth aged 11-18 with extensive trauma histories focusing on trauma treatment and life skills programming.

The Pine Rest Behavioral Health Solutions Division partners with behavioral health and medical organizations to increase access to psychiatry services and to provide a continuum of behavioral health and telepsychiatry services throughout many communities across the State of Michigan.
