Public Safety Dispatcher-Career Ladder II 

Description

Position Summary:

Under close supervision, serves as 911 dispatch operator for public safety receiving emergency and non-emergency calls from the public; broadcasts and responds to police radio patrol units and other public safety agencies; receives public inquires and complaints; maintains call logs and perform clerical duties.

The work is normally reviewed in progress and upon completion of each assignment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; most aspects of the work tasks are covered by detailed instructions or procedures.

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, and two years’ work experience as a communications operator or dispatcher, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain a Terminal Operator Certificate (A) within six months of hire.
  • Must be able to type at least 30 WPM.
  • Must demonstrate sixty percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math.
  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
  • Must pass an extensive law enforcement criminal background investigation prior to employment. Any criminal record history will disqualify applicant.
  • May be subjected to an auditory examination.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • Must submit a 39-month driving record with the employment application.
  • Must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
  • May be subjected to an auditory examination.

Its four non-contiguous segments total more than 2.8 million acres at an elevation of 2,674 feet.
