Technology Support Specialist 

About the Organization Established in 1965 Swanson Rink specializes in mechanical and electrical engineering for mission critical data centers, airports and corporate clients. Our staff includes specialists in airport systems engineering (baggage handling, passenger boarding bridges, fueling and deicing), as well as fire protection, telecommunications, security and project management.

Performs activities to maintain and solve problems related to computer hardware and software, peripherals, network server, and office electronic equipment in order to ensure proper daily operations by performing the following duties. Works closely with all staff members.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Performs testing, delivers, installs, and moves computer workstations and peripherals. Installs and configures hardware and software in accordance with standard procedures and work order specifications.
  2. Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs computers and peripherals, responds to computer software problems and instructs users in the proper operation and maintenance of computers. Performs in-house diagnostics and repairs defective equipment; analyzes problems and coordinates resolution with appropriate parties.
  3. Trains personnel in equipment operations and maintenance.
  4. Participates in analysis, research, and development of applications for new hardware, software and new technology.
  5. Coordinates the procurement and distribution of upgrades to workstation computer software; defines users to the file server, maintains user and system login scripts, creates groups and grants trustee rights to groups and users; ensures regularly scheduled backups of network files are performed, backup tape rotation.
  6. Provides network technical support, customer service, user support, maintains software and hardware, maintains up-to-date documentation; troubleshoots network, telephone system, and other portable communications.
  7. Assures proper maintenance and support for office electronic equipment including the telephone system, printers, copiers, and plotters.
  8. Creates, maintains, and updates software installation instructions, 'How To' documentation and keeps track and updates inventory for all IT assets.
  9. Manages and adjusts work hours as necessary to meet the ongoing responsibilities of this position.
  10. Must stay abreast with updates on various software programs and evolving computer technology.
  11. Must pursue training, development and certifications opportunities and strive to continuously build knowledge and skills.
Position Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in related field and 2 years of job-related experience required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Demonstrated track-record of successfully troubleshooting and resolving problems with computer software, network, telephone system and other equipment, including mobile devices
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to create and maintain documentation on various process and procedures including software installation instructions
  • Must be able to work overtime or be in an on-call rotation as needed
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or other Autodesk products preferred
  • A+, Network+, MCP or other Microsoft Certifications a plus, but not required
