Description

Reporting to the vice president, communications, marketing and advocacy, the senior communications associate plays a leadership role in engaging stakeholders both internally and beyond our walls to tell the extraordinary story of Holland Bloorview. The position holder will have demonstrated experience with the tools of communications including key message development, communications planning, internal communications, government relations, stakeholder relations and the ability to translate the inspiring work that takes place daily into external profile. The position holder will work closely with all members of the communications and public engagement team and staff from across the organization, including senior management. This is an opportunity to join a unique, high-performing team that is comprised of both hospital and Holland Bloorview Foundation colleagues. Together, the CPE team works in full alignment to build influence and awareness of Holland Bloorview in support of the hospital's No Boundaries strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops communication plans for organization-wide initiatives and manages all aspects of communication projects, including critical path development, collateral development, budgeting and evaluation
  • Leads strategic projects with corporate impact, including a lens to exploit opportunities for profile building and increased influence in the broader healthcare system.
  • Publicizes Holland Bloorview's role as leader in pediatric disability to government, partners, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders
  • Develops a variety of written content such as speeches, articles and correspondence
  • Plays a leading role in managing relationships with policy makers, elected officials and related decision makers.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to staff and senior management team
  • Participates on steering committees as needed for hospital-wide projects and initiatives
  • Supports issues and crisis management
  • Oversight of organizational award submissions and management of conference sponsorship opportunities
  • Monitors external trends in communications in the health-care field, specifically around issues that impact hospitals or the pediatric healthcare sector
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
  • Supports the advancement of Dear Everybody, Holland Bloorview's ongoing social justice campaign

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree and post-graduate diploma in communications and/or public relations, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and public relations, experience in a health care setting is an asset; experience in government relations is also an asset
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment with tight timelines
  • Strong understanding of public engagement tools including intersection of communications to support fundraising
  • Excellent written communications and editing skills, knowledge of CP style is an asset
  • Superior oral communications skills
  • Ability to build relationships with staff at all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency with office productivity tools including MS Office suite - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proven project management experience
  • A strong team player with excellent judgment, resourcefulness, and creativity
  • Understanding of the health care sector and childhood disability issues is an asset
