Description

The position works assembling a variety of components ranging in complexity throughout the day.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Manufacture custom and/or prototype isolators
  • Read, follow and execute build requirements from approved prints and other work instructions.
  • Assist in the assembly, and testing of new equipment
  • Assist other team members by checking work prior to release of repaired or modified units.
  • Notify engineering of conditions requiring more complex resolution, recurring failures or service issues or identified product limitations. Make recommendations for design or procedural changes.
  • Assist Calibration Department in collecting and tracking calibration of equipment.
  • Proper handling of critical and fragile optical components.
  • Perform diagnostics review of unit to determine operating performance and potential causes and areas of failures.
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems, run appropriate computer programs, analyze data, isolate areas of potential or actual problems and make required modifications to suit current requirements and resolve problems.
  • Work from production check lists, procedures, instructions, customer and unit records, diagrams, prints, schematics, computer programs and similar documentation
  • Assembles complete products according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components.
  • Perform course and fine alignments to optics within the unit to exacting degrees of accuracy.
  • Create and maintain production and testing needs as required.
  • Finish most of the FSI Isolator Catalog.
  • Handle special orders and a variety of custom isolators.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with:
    • Using basic optical detector and power meter, Oscilloscope, and Fiber optics meters)
    • Basic mechanical inspection (calipers, micrometers)
  • 'Hands-on' experience in opto-mechanical or opto-electronic assembly in a high tech manufacturing environment

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required, and any additional technical education is a plus

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of optics coating, cleaning, testing and troubleshooting process.
  • Knowledge of high power laser and safety.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair optical systems and components.
  • Proficiency in basic computer use (MS Office) and communication tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team doing fast paced work.
  • Ability to multi-task, and to shift from one task to another when required addressing changing production or field service priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
