Description

The Volunteer Services/Event Coordinator is responsible for the creation of a new program in order to enhance the quality of life to people served by I Am Boundless (IAB) and its current or future client organizations. IAB has served the developmentally disabled community for decades with caring employees and person-centric programs. In order to build upon that continuum of care, the Volunteer Services/Event Coordinator will engage our families, friends, the community, local corporate partners, civic groups, educational groups and others in order add value to the lives of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Volunteer Services/Event Coordinator will work with our teams and constituents to build and market the opportunities, to locate, orient/train and ensure compliance of volunteers.

The Volunteer Services/Event Coordinator will also manage events in support of the marketing/communications/fundraising division I Am Boundless. It is anticipated the event portion of the position will require 25% of the time/effort while the remaining 75% of the position’s time/effort is dedicated to Volunteer Services.

Essential Functions

Assess volunteer opportunities within our agencies by coordinating with appropriate leadership and program staff.

Lead the volunteer referral program and develop, implement, manage and participate in the programs for recruitment, interviewing, orientation, training, evaluation and retention of volunteers.

Engage families, friends, the community, local corporate partners, civic groups, educational groups and others in order to strategically market and drive interest in opportunities to add value to the lives of persons served by the organization; attend community meetings in order to increase the visibility of FMR/I Am Boundless and our client organizations.

Responsible for all documentation of volunteer activity including providing monthly and annual reports to leadership and to stay in compliance with federal, state, agency and accreditation regulations.

Create/execute or assist in the execution of events relative to the Advancement division of I Am Boundless. These events may include: open house opportunities, smaller fundraising events, media events, etc.

With respect to client rights, ensures all volunteer services are provided with respect and dignity for clients, reports all complaints made by clients and/or families to the appropriate supervisors, reports all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds/client property and/or any other corporate compliance items immediately.

Must adhere to all policies, procedures, terms and conditions set forth in the employee handbook and policy/procedure manual.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities but will oversee the actions of our volunteers and works regularly with all residential staff, families, and people we support. The position may supervise volunteers, paid or unpaid interns or other staff at some point in the future.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment; routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and flexibility is provided to accommodate.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Position Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of in marketing, event planning, communications, social work, psychology or related field of study.

  • Experience either as a volunteer or in the management of volunteers.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior experience overseeing volunteer programs

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff and the public.

  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
