GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate the implementation of Proyecto Encuentros de Gracia y Bienvenida (Proyecto) in the United Church of Christ.

Proyecto Encuentros de Gracia y Bienvenida is a grant funded project that advances Open and Affirming (ONA) ministries in the United Church of Christ among predominantly Latinx churches and congregations with Latinx members or outreach. It engages scholars, pastors, and leaders to develop intersectional resources and implement effective strategies to grow the ministry's network and partners. Funding for this position is currently secured through the end of 2020.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strengthen and grow Proyecto's new and existing network, relationships and partners.
  • Convene an advisory/working group of Spanish language writers and editors for consulting on the implementation and evaluation of the goals, objectives and deliverables of the project.
  • With the Proyecto Advisory/Working Group, coordinate the conceptualization, preparation and dissemination of materials to interpret and promote the Proyecto Encuentros goals and objectives to UCC Conferences, Local Churches and other settings.
  • Develop and disseminate Proyecto's bilingual toolkit within and beyond the United Church of Christ (UCC), and provide and coordinate training opportunities for facilitators of the toolkit, including training of trainers.
  • Develop, coordinate and maintain Proyecto Encuentro's web pages on ucc.org and presence on social media, including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Create awareness of Proyecto and work collaboratively with National and Global Ministries teams.
  • Build relationships and explore and engage opportunities for collaboration with UCC settings and related institutions beyond the national offices (e.g. Conferences, Seminaries, Center for Progressive Renewal, etc.).
  • Provide assistance in the development and implementation of advocacy strategies that support intersectional open and affirming values in public policy.
  • Coordinate the administration and maintenance of the database of leaders, trainers, and facilitators, as well as UCC persons, local churches, organizations and other settings which are interested in, in support of, or have participated with Proyecto.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of Proyecto by fostering a spirit of cooperation in the Proyecto Advisory/Working Group and other collegial partnership relationships, and by accomplishing assigned tasks.
  • Develop and maintain professional and courteous relationships with colleagues, national staff, directors, partners, and other constituents; serve as a positive role model by exemplifying values which are consistent with the United Church of Christ.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required; Graduate degree in theology, social work, and/or human sexuality education preferred.
  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission in its broad range of concerns; ability to articulate and witness to one’s faith perspective.
  • Understanding of the polity and structures of the United Church of Christ.
  • Familiarity with faith-based and community organizations that address concerns of social policy affecting persons from diverse racial and ethnic communities.
  • Ability to interpret sensitive and often controversial material to persons who have diverse personal, biblical, and theological understandings and perspectives.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious settings with commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language skills, including ability to conceptualize and develop print resources. Public speaking skills desirable.
  • Fluent in Spanish language (verbal and written)
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
