About the Organization Desert Champions manages and operates a curated selection of sports and entertainment events and properties, the largest of which is the BNP Paribas Open held annually at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, operated by Desert Champions. Position Airport Welcome Desk Greeter  

Description: The Welcome Desk Greeter will be responsible for coordinating player transportation upon his/her arrival at the Palm Springs Airport. Additionally, this person will utilize informational binders and related media materials to answer a wide variety of questions to the general public who approach the desk regarding the BNP Paribas Open. This position requires availability in March.

Position Requirements

Essential job Functions:

  • Familiarize self with binders/laptop containing general tournament information
  • Receive and review daily player transportation reports/schedules
  • Greet players, their entourage, and the general public coming off of the plane
  • Communicate with the Player Transportation and Volunteers about player flight delays, arrivals, etc.
  • Direct players to transportation volunteers with assigned vehicle
  • Communicate via mobile with Reservations Office at Indian Wells Tennis Garden
  • Assist guests with any inquiries regarding the tournament (from tickets, match schedules, directions, to on site restaurant options, etc.)
  • Hand out tournament brochures, maps, postcards, etc.
  • Be aware of current player standings/winners and match schedules daily
  • Create a positive and friendly environment that will get people excited about the event
  • Record feedback in daily logs (i.e. frequently asked questions, slow/busy periods, challenges etc.)
  • Opening and closing procedures of the welcome desk daily
  • Other duties may be assigned

Language Ability:

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of navigating the internet and basic understanding of online publishing tools and social media platforms. Ability to operate mobile devise/Smart phones.

Education/ Experience:

High School Diploma

Must have experience in customer service and enjoy working with others

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

General knowledge/background in tennis and the BNP Paribas Open is preferred

Familiarity with the Coachella Valley area

Strong customer service skills

Ability to maintain a positive, friendly, high-quality service attitude at all times

Ability to problem solve

Reliable, diligent, and dedicated

Bilingual is a plus

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, stand, and direct people to their desired area.

Work Environment:

The location is at the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), therefore people will be coming and going depending on the arrival and departure schedules -- there will be busy and slow periods throughout the day. Must have reliable transportation to/from airport.
