SUMMARY

The Museum Technician, General will provide general collections management support across all collecting divisions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists collections specialist and registrarial staff in day-to-day collections management projects and special projects
  • Capable of carrying out inventory, cataloging, and organization of museum objects, specimens, and archives in accordance with best-practice museum standards of care
  • Assists in preservation and maintenance activities of a range of archival and object types such as glass, paper, artifacts, skeletal, and wet tissue collections
  • Assist collections specialists, in fulfilling research requests for inventories, data, and images
  • Assists researchers in accessing materials, setting up equipment, and facilitates use of collections materials
  • Supports other NMHM elements
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Museum studies, Library Science, Biology, Physical Anthropoloty or History
  • Two (2) years relevant collections management experience
  • Expert oral and written communications skills required
  • Demonstrated responsibility for handling historically, scientifically, and monetarily valuable collections is required
  • Skill with collections management databases
  • Electronic publication and other software experience
  • Ability to generate creditable finding aids and work in support of registrarial and general collections management
  • Occupational health clearance for use of respirator and work within a BSL-2 environment
  • Requires ability to work in confined collections storage areas, ability to climb ladders and use basic materials handling equipment such as dollies, pallet jacks, flatbed carts, hand drills, etc
  • Skill with collections management databases; Ke EMu preferred
  • Position requires a NACI (CAC only)
