Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by three years of experience in a court system, law enforcement, or corrections; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and Affirmation as a sworn Deputy Clerk of the Court.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Description

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform specialized administrative duties in support of assigned City of South Fulton Municipal Court. Responsibilities include providing administrative support to court staff; receiving, preparing, and presenting court orders; and performing intake, traffic court, clerical, security, and/or cashiering duties. This classification processes a variety of complex legal matters or documents and performs specialized administrative duties.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Processes complex legal matters and documents for assigned court: inputs and generates data required to build cases; determines the legal jurisdiction of each case to be processed; conducts records searches and locates files; prepares, copies, and distributes letters, notices, subpoenas, and fines; processes and records payments, fees and fines and enters into computer system: assigns cases; and prepares reports.

Reviews and prepares assigned court calendar: and coordinates translator assignments; Testifies during court hearings as required.

Performs routine office support functions: receives, screens and directs incoming telephone calls; sorts and distributes mail; and maintains inventory of required office materials and supplies.

Provides customer service to police officers, other courts, outside agencies, and the general public; according to area of assignment may answer questions pertaining to dispossessory, court dates, pleadings, case numbers, program information, and filing processes; and explains court procedures to participants and advises them of their rights.

According to assignment may authorize detention for juveniles accused of committing crimes as well as authorizing shelter care for abused or neglected juveniles; searches, processes, and secures subjects and their personal property to ensure the safety of children and staff pending child placement in detention or release; maintains legally mandated logs of intakes and releases; verifies identification and custody of each intake.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including warrants, court calendars, transport/transfer orders and/or writs of possession according to area of assignment; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation according to assignment which may include including shift reports, assignment sheets, Fifa's, and satisfaction of judgment; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records; May implement court orders and executes warrants and pick-up orders

Performs other related duties as required.
