Special Collections Processing Intern, Margaret Herrick Library - Summer 2019

Job Summary:

The Intern will gain hands-on experience working on an archival collection directly related to the field of study or expressed interest of the candidate. The Intern will arrange, describe, and create database records for the selected collection. The Intern will be supervised and mentored by a department Archivist.

Reports to: Archivist/Library Vault Manager, Special Collections

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process an archival collection from beginning to end, including the organization, arrangement, and description of manuscripts and other materials.
  • Conduct biographical and historical research related to the collection using the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library resources, other authoritative resources, and outside resources.
  • Participate in department team processing activities.
 
Position Requirements
  • College student attending an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Overall 3.0 grade point average or higher.
  • Minimum one year of study toward degree in related field.
  • Previous work or internship in a library or archive environment a plus.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of two hours, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs.

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week summer internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
