Oral History Video Production Intern - Summer 2019 (Academy Gold)

Job Summary:
A summer internship supporting the original productions of the Academy's Visual History Program,
a born-digital recording initiative of long-form video interviews with influential filmmakers,
craftspeople and technologists. This collection is currently made up of more than 190 interviews,
and over 725 content hours.

We are seeking an organized, enthusiastic Intern comfortable with a fast-paced video production
environment to assist Oral History Projects' staff in ongoing production, post-production,
archival, and research activities supporting the Visual History Program. Supervised by the
Production Coordinator for Oral History Projects, the Intern will assist the department in
facilitating production planning, logistics, and coordination of correspondence with interviewees.
Additionally, the Intern will participate in a number of collection management tasks, including:
content cataloging; writing interview bios, abstracts, and summaries; curatorial research and
creating clip reels; updating production and collection management databases; and assisting
with other post-production tasks. The Intern will also have the opportunity to provide input into project
development and the creation of a controlled vocabulary specific to film industry-related
interviews.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Production Coordinator and Sr. Manager in oral history production planning and logistics.
  • Assist in day of shoot logistics, coordination (runner) and notetaking.
  • Select interview highlights for use in topical clip reels.
  • Assist department staff with tasks related to transcription, DVD authoring, labeling, QC and updating inventories.
  • Review recordings and write interview summaries.
  • Research film history subjects and people.
  • Write biographical summaries for interview subjects.
  • Assist in file and records management.
  • Timecode indexing of interviews from the Visual History Program collection.
  • Research aspects of digital oral history best practices, especially as they relate to providing access to multilingual content.
 
Position Requirements
  • Current student of moving image archive studies, library & information sciences or oral history programs.
  • Knowledge of and interest in international film history.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets (including Excel and Google Docs).
  • Ability to learn new software.
  • Collaborative and engaged worker.
  • Problem solving, multitasking and project management skills.
  • Data entry and management.
  • Bilingual preferred.

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week summer internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
