Share Email Opening Title Home Movie Collection Project Intern, Film Archive - Summer 2019 (Academy Gold)  Description Job Summary: The Academy Film Archive occasionally acquires home movies from online auctions. Generally, these home movies are orphan films, put up for auction by a seller who does not know the filmmaker (or family) and has little or no provenance information about the films. The content of the films, as described by the seller, usually includes historically valuable footage of Southern California, aspects of the motion picture industry, and/or images of minority groups; content which the Archive actively collects. An Intern involved in this project will work under the direction of a Film Archivist to do pre-inventory sorting of uninventoried collections and to transfer information from seller description notes into the Academy's ADLIB database. Once this step is complete, the Intern will begin inspection and inventory of the collections, which will include entering information into our database about the physical aspects of the individual films, condition and content notes, and information gathered from research into the films' provenance. Duties and Responsibilities: Create item lists of recently-arrived collections. Collection research. Entry and verification of catalog records in our in-house database. Quality control of video materials. Writing descriptions and summaries of film/video content. Inspection and inventory of motion picture film prints and/or elements. General support for department activities related to records management and preservation.   Position Requirements Exhibited interest in the film industry and in film history. Film handling experience preferred. Proficiency in MS Office. Strong writing, verbal, and problem-solving skills. This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week summer internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
