Share Email Opening Title Cataloging Intern, Film Archive - Summer 2019 (Academy Gold)  Description Summary: The Academy Film Archive’s previous moving image collection database was recently migrated to a new collection management system that is shared Academy-wide with the Margaret Herrick Library and upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. In the process, Film Archive data was mapped according to the EN 15907 Metadata Standard for Cinematographic Works and integrated with the Margaret Herrick Library’s film title authority database to enable unified access to all of a film’s material in various Academy collections. Crucial to this comprehensive access is a restructuring of some of the Film Archive’s moving image Manifestation records representing variations of a Work. This project will offer the opportunity to become intimately familiar with the Film Archive’s holdings and evolving cataloging practices, to work in a multi-faceted collection management system, and occasional film/video handling and inspection. Responsibilities: Review and update a designated set of moving image Work records containing version and language information. Identify potential duplicate Work records and related Manifestations in the Academy’s Moving Image Catalogue and perform necessary data cleanup in coordination with a Moving Image Cataloger, including the consolidation of records, revising title formatting, additional data entry, and establishing relationships with other associated moving image content in the collection. Visually inspect moving image items when necessary to concretely identify collection content.   Position Requirements Enrolled in graduate/undergraduate program in Archiving, Film Studies, Library and Information Studies, or other conservation-related program. Knowledge of and/or interest in cinema history and current archival and library cataloging practices and standards. Excellent attention to detail. This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week summer internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
