Description

The Early Childhood Educator will work in an integrated nursery school setting (0-5 years old) that demonstrates a commitment to developmentally appropriate practice and adherence to quality and safety in service delivery. Child development theory and current practices in curriculum development to enable the Early Childhood Educator to develop, plan and implement group and individual programming that reflects the importance of family centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides developmentally appropriate learning environment for the full participation of all children that reflects quality and promotes a sense of belonging for all children
  • Implements formal and informal assessment tools and keen observation to design individual educational plans for clients
  • Maintains on-going developmental records for each client
  • Works within a multidisciplinary team to integrate therapeutic goals into the classroom setting
  • Plans and implements curriculum based on best practices
  • Incorporates children’s Individual Educational Plans into curriculum planning to ensure ongoing development of children
  • Understands the ELECT framework
  • Understands the Emergent Curriculum approach
  • Designs and adapts environments that responds to individual children’s strengths and needs
  • Participates in team planning sessions that will help to ensure well coordinated and effective delivery of services
  • Partners with parents to provide consistent ongoing communication with families through formal and informal meetings, written reports, anecdotal notes and documentation of children’s learning
  • Mentors students and volunteers in developing strategies to best support children in their early years
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices

Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Ability to effectively manage fluctuating responsibilities while maintaining a core workload.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with young children and parents.
  • Effective written communication skills in goal setting and report writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner, including the ability to ensure positive interactions with families, colleagues and supervisor
  • Ability to organize time and meet deadlines.
  • Plans an environment with enquiry and discovery in mind
  • Working knowledge on established policies and procedures as per the Child Care and Early Years Act and Toronto Operating Criteria
  • CPR-C and First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrates Holland Bloorview values
