Payroll Clerk 


What are we looking for in a Payroll Clerk?

The Payroll Clerk works within Comprehensive’s Finance department to maintain the payroll system and provide support to accounts payable. It is the responsibility of the Payroll Clerk to ensure employees are paid on time, accurately, and in compliance with all agency and government policies. This includes reviewing timecards, adjusting leave accruals, processing taxes and deductions, and updating employee files. The Payroll Clerk must be able to balance multiple tasks at once, adhere strictly to deadlines, and manage stressful & time-sensitive situations in a professional manner. Effective communication skills and a high degree of confidentiality are essential in this role.

Payroll Clerk duties may include:

  • processing biweekly payroll accurately, efficiently, and on time
  • reviewing & approving weekly timecards, seeking corrections as necessary
  • updating accruals for sick & vacation leave, FMLA, and donated leave and making requested changes to garnishments, deductions, status changes, etc.
  • auditing direct deposit accounts
  • processing payroll liabilities, taxes, and deductions
  • updating employee & agency files for archival and auditing purposes
  • supporting Accounts Receivable processes by coding invoices, completing data entry, and auditing batch data
  • serving as backup for travel reimbursements, petty cash, & agency credit card checkout
  • maintaining positive relationships with vendors and staff by responding immediately to adverse situations and resolving disputes in a timely manner

Position Requirements

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED and two years of related accounting or bookkeeping experience. An equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered.
