Transmission General Superintendent

Description

The Transmission General Superintendent is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of work and projects for the Transmission division to include the planning, scheduling and installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead Transmission lines. This position will assist with the recruitment and development of crews as well as assisting the VP of Operations with customer relations and overall strategic planning and execution within the division. Must be able to travel at least 50 percent of the time.

  • Provides general oversight to crews performing maintenance and construction activities on various projects.
  • Assists in developing project estimates and work plans.
  • Responsible for overall hiring and development of all crews.
  • Coordinates all personnel and scheduling for projects.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring safety and productivity of crews.
  • Oversees Superintendents by coordinating and assigning tasks, monitoring work, training and mentoring.
  • Responsible for communication and coordination with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal project management.
  • Facilitates coordination with internal departments, including Project Management, Procurement, Accounting and Human Resources, Fleet and Tools.
  • Responsible for the productivity, progress, and performance of various projects, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with job specifications and regulations and within the allotted schedule.
  • Reads and interprets site plans, construction drawings, schedules, and scopes of work.
  • Ensures efficient use of materials and equipment assigned to each project.
  • Reviews performance concerns and documents, implements corrective actions as needed
  • Reviews safety tailgate meetings with crews, all required paperwork, JSA's, incident reports, vehicle inspections, and safety reports.
  • Understands and enforces DOT and OSHA standards, as well as company-specific standards.
  • Reviews timesheets and job reports.
  • Holds Superintendents accountable for all equipment and tools including bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, skid steers, excavation equipment, and other equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma/GED required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in overhead transmission work required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Transmission Foreman or General Foreman required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • A valid driver's licence is required; CDL is preferred
  • Journeyman Lineman Certification is preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must have knowledge and understanding of minimal approach distance while working in energized areas.
  • Able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Able to follow and provide written and oral job plans and instructions.
  • Must be safety focused
  • Able to anticipate needs and proactively offer solutions
  • Able to make sound decisions and work independently
  • Able to mentor and direct the work of others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to make decisions in an emergency situation
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively motivate others
